The Akoko North West Students’ Union Government, ANWSUG, has successfully facilitated the disbursement of a ₦2,000,000 bursary sponsored by Hon. Esan Owolabi, marking the restoration of student financial support in the local government after several years without any bursary scheme.
The formal presentation of the bursary took place at the Local Government Secretariat in Okeagbe, with students, community stakeholders, and government officials in attendance. The initiative represents a strategic intervention aimed at alleviating the financial burden faced by indigent students pursuing tertiary education.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Akoko North West Local Government, Hon. John Abiodun Esan Owolabi, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing education and empowering young people through tangible support. He emphasized that sustained investment in students remains central to community development and long term progress.
In his remarks, the ANWSUG representative, Comr. Ayoola Joshua Ayodele, described the bursary as a significant milestone achieved through constructive engagement and advocacy. He noted that the intervention not only provides immediate financial relief but also reinstates a culture of institutional support for students within the local government. Beneficiaries were encouraged to maintain strong academic performance, including a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5, and to utilize the funds responsibly.
ANWSUG expressed profound appreciation to Hon. Esan Owolabi for sponsoring the ₦2,000,000 bursary and for restoring a critical support system that had been absent for years. The union reaffirmed its commitment to sustained advocacy, strategic collaboration, and initiatives that strengthen educational access and student welfare across Akoko North West.
