It was a certain day, around 10:50 p.m., when a call came in, in that discussion was a simple, direct, but heavy responsibility, “How do we do more for the people? How do we empower them, lift them, and meaningfully reduce their struggles to making more?" That question captures the essence of the man I have worked with closely over the years: Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul, PhD (KAP).
KAP is not the kind of leader who waits for circumstances to force action. He is driven by an inner conviction that public office is not a privilege to be enjoyed but a duty to be discharged - daily, consistently, and selflessly. In the National Assembly, where legislation demands patience, resilience, and endurance, he has remained steadfast. He has proposed bills, moved motions, and endured the rigorous, often exhausting processes that come with lawmaking, not for personal recognition, but for national impact.
Beyond bills and motions, KAP understands that governance must touch lives directly. He has empowered his constituents continuously, ensuring that the people feel the presence of government not just in words, but in tangible support. His annual Interfaith “Merciful God Concert” stands as a testament to his belief that unity, faith, and gratitude must remain central to leadership. Thus, bringing people together beyond religious lines to honor God and give back to the community.
Outside the National Assembly where the camera lens could pick him speaking or doing Ayes, and the Nays, are moments where these lenses can't be used, and this are phone calls to check on a staff member, constituents whose parent fell ill, or the students who needs admission, to the graduate who wants a job at Federal, State and the local level, or the messages that is to meet the financial demands of constituents, even the constituent member that his calls was placed on hold while he was on official duty, and he insists on knowing the names of every of such examples either on official terms or with a genuine interest.
On the floor of the House, his voice has been firm and purposeful. He has raised motions addressing critical national concerns—from the deplorable state of Kirikiri Road, to the alarming cases of high blood pressure emergencies at Nigerian airports, highlighting how infrastructure and poor systems affect human lives. These are not abstract debates for him; they are real issues affecting real Nigerians.
KAP’s vision extends even further. His advocacy for strengthening institutions, including his interest in reforming and repositioning the Nigerian Police Academy, reflects a leader thinking long-term, one committed to ensuring that law enforcement officers are trained to truly serve and protect, as originally intended.
What sets KAP apart is not just what he does, but how he does it. He gets to work early, closing late, and never treats public service as a nine-to-five obligation. Despite the demands of national duty in Abuja, he remains deeply connected to his roots, a proper Ajegunle man. Every week, every weekend, he is back in Lagos- meeting constituents, listening to concerns, and ensuring that Ajeromi-Ifelodun is never disconnected from the federal government it belongs to.
Legislative oversights responsibilities are not buzzwords to him; they are his core mandate. Even without chairing a committee, he has remained proactive - lobbying, engaging, and pushing relentlessly for the good of his constituency. He understands that leadership is not defined by titles, but by impact.
As his aide, I have come to know KAP not just as a lawmaker, but as a man deeply committed to service; consistent, disciplined, and unrelenting in his pursuit of a better Nigeria. He is a man who does not rest on past achievements, who sees every day as another opportunity to serve, and who believes that governance must always return value to the people.
KAP is, simply put, a man at work for his constituency, for the nation, and for the future.
KAP is the man he says he is - he Keeps All Promises.
