2023: Why I visited Governor Wike - Peter Obi reveals

L-R: H.E Governor Nyesom Wike and Labour Party Presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi

The Former Governor of Anambra State and Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the forthcoming 2023 General elections has revealed why he visited Governor Wike in Rivers State.

Governor Wike who was also a Presidential aspirant in the recently concluded primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja, came second and was defeated by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar the former vice president of Nigeria under the Obasanjo-led administration.

Peter Obi who was also a contestant in the said primaries, but chicken out due to pressure and foreseen defeat by the big players in the contest, withdraw from the primaries, and went on to decamp to the Labour Party where he was given a close to a smooth ride opportunity to be the flagbearer of the party in the 2023 presidential elections.

Peter Obi in a tweet on his official handle said he visited Wike to confer on vital national interest, the statement reads "Earlier today, I visited Port-Harcourt, to confer with H.E. Governor Wike on vital issues of national interest."

In speculations about the visit, Nigerians see the move as a way to lure him (Wike) to support his ambition after being humiliated in the way and manner the PDP treated Wike. First by not giving him (Wike) the Vice President slot, instead, gave it to Delta State Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, even after Wike polled 16-3 votes to defeat Okowa for the slot by the committee selected to chair the choice of the Vice Presidential candidate.

Peter Obi is mending fences with Big wigs to ensure his victory at the polls, now that he has a youth support base and the sympathy of the middle class.
